As the festive spirit enveloped Swindon, so did the warmth and generosity of our community. This Christmas season, Alternative Angels embarked on a mission to make a difference in the lives of those facing homelessness and vulnerability. With a heart full of hope and a commitment to spreading joy, we organised a street collection on the 16th, 20th, and 23rd of December.
Our dedicated team gathered outside Orbital Swindon on all three days, connecting with the community and sharing the spirit of giving. On the 23rd we extended our efforts inside Asda, and we're immensely grateful to Asda for providing us with this additional platform. We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Orbital Shopping Centre for their support and cooperation in making these collections possible.
The results and impact of these collective efforts were nothing short of incredible. The community rallied behind us, showcasing the true meaning of the season. In total, we raised an astonishing £1500, and with the added generosity of gift aid, the total soared over £2000. This financial support is critical for our charity, as it allows us to continue our mission of providing for those in need.
In addition to the monetary contributions, the community's generosity extended to the collection of food donations at Asda. The overwhelming response resulted in a significant amount of food items that will go a long way in helping us sustain our charity initiatives.
The timing of this support couldn't be more crucial, as we find ourselves providing meals for approximately 900 individuals each month. Without the kindness and generosity of our community, sustaining our charity and supporting those in need would be an insurmountable challenge.
We want to express our deepest gratitude to Orbital Asda, and the Orbital Shopping Centre for their instrumental role in the success of Alternative Angels Christmas street collection, as well as to everyone who contributed. Your support has made a significant impact and will continue to make a difference in the lives of those we serve.
